Better to seek out these artists' works firsthand than to settle for this tame rehash, pretty as it may be.. Director Harry Thomason takes some unnecessary liberties in imagining Hank Williams' final days.. It's a fascinating film that I enjoyed thoroughly.. An exceedingly silly historical fantasy.. A noble effort, that ultimately left me disappointed and unfulfilled.. . Part road trip, part coming-of-age story, the film ultimately reveals itself as a Hollywood memoir, but it saves any stardust ...
